Like totally, the 80s were rad!     We wore parachute pants and leg warmers, acid washed Guess jeans and stirrup pants.    The size of our shoulder pads was rivaled by the size of our hair.   Big hair was topped with towering bangs, held in place by hair spray.   Guys sometimes had rat tails or mullets.   On TV we watched Dallas, Dynasty, The Cosby Show, and Miami Vice.  We listened to Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, The Go-Gos, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, and Guns & Roses, and watched videos of all these artists on MTV.  On the weekends we went to movies like Top Gun, Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, ET, The Terminator, and Flashdance.   We had Reaganomics and Rubik’s Cube, Pac Man and Cabbage Patch Dolls.    Go home and ask your parents, “Where’s the beef?” and see if they know what you are talking about…   Take inspiration from the above photos to dress for the Retro Dance on Friday from 6-8 p.m.    Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at lunch on Friday or at the door.

Learn a little about the 90’s:

Description: http://beautifulwithbrains.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/the-rachel-haircut.jpg

Television:The Real World premiered on MTV. Friends debuted on TV and suddenly women everywhere wanted “The Rachel” haircut. ER  and Seinfeld were also on TV.

Description: http://www.thehostesschick.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/kris-kross-300x300.jpgMusic: Rapping pre-teens Kris Kross wore their clothes backwards and made us "Jump." Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg took the rap world over. The Spice Girls wanted you to be their lover. Britney, Christina & Mandy brought bubble gum into pop music. Grunge music by Nirvana and Pearl Jam was all over MTV. (Wear your flannel shirts and baggy jeans and forget to comb your hair for this look).

In the news: OJ Simpson’s car chase and trial, Nancy Kerrigan assaulted by rival Tonya Harding’s boyfriend before the Olympics, Michael  Jordan & the Chicago Bulls won their first NBA title, President Bill Clinton was impeached & balanced the budget.

Are the 2000s retro yet?? We are in a new decade…

What a funky Friday to be a Cougar!

Picture yourself in bellbottom jeans and platform shoes….
Or better yet, a white suit under the sparking lights of the disco ball.
The 70s were all about the Flash!
Do you remember Hank Aaron when he broke Babe Ruth’s homerun record in 1974?
How about Mark Spitz winning 7 gold medals in the Munich Olympics in 1972?
Who could forget the FIGHT OF THE CENTURY between
Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier at Madison Square Gardens in 1971?
Saturday Night Fever and All in the Family were the “hot happenings” at the movies and on tv.
Kids listened to the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath on their new transistor radios while they waited in long lines at the gas stations during the “Oil Crisis” in 1973.
Meanwhile the Watergate Scandal, the Apollo XIII disaster and the end of the Vietnam War were some major events that shaped our world in the 70s.

FUN FACT about Paraguay! Paraguay’s flag is a little unusual. In the early 1800’s, the leaders of Paraguay adopted the colors of the flag of France, and arranged them in horizontal stripes, red-white-blue, on both sides of the Paraguayan flag. On the obverse (front side) of the flag is the seal of the Republic of Paraguay, while on the reverse is the seal of the Paraguayan Treasury. Paraguay’s flag is thought to be the only one in the world with two different sides!
